Throughout the year, HBO released videos promoting the return of Harley Quinn. The popular show was supposed to make its season 5 debut in November. As this article is being written, we’re into the second week of December. Thankfully, the team behind Harley Quinn wouldn't leave fans without an update for too long. The first trailer for season 5 was released. It showed a premiere date of January 16, 2025, added surprises and cameos, and made good on foreshadowing from Kite Man: Hell Yeah!
First, Harley, Poison Ivy, and the rest of their gang are leaving the apocalyptic-looking Gotham City for the shining City of the Future, and home of Superman, Metropolis. While there, Lex Luthor offers Ivy an opportunity to lead the Metropolis Green Initiative. This is also a chance for Harley to reinvent herself after her many issues in season 4. Among them is killing Nightwing and probably being responsible for destroying Gotham City.
"I shall forever rage against imperfection."
Of course, things aren’t all sunshine, kisses, and shiny baseball bats. The season finale of Kite Man: Hell Yeah! shows Brainiac making his way to Earth. During the trailer, Brainiac (voiced by the great Stephen Fry) establishes his normal brand of evil saying he plans on killing everything on Earth that isn’t perfect.
Also joining the show for the first time are Enchantress (voiced by the phenomenal Leila Birch) and Red X. I haven’t seen who’s voicing Red X and there’s a good reason. Red X’s identity is secret and giving the voice away would ruin the surprise. However, this writer thinks it’s Dick Grayson instead of the DC Comics’ version, Brick Pettirosso. Dick Grayson still wants revenge for Harley killing him. Using the Red X identity gives him the element of surprise.
Also in Kite Man: Hell Yeah! is the Anti-Life Equation that’s in the hands of Golden Gilder’s mother, Rebecca Chen. She’s ready to destroy worlds using her new powers and with the help of Queen of Fables’ undead fairytale characters. However, she wasn’t in the trailer. That doesn’t mean she won’t be seen in season 5 of Harley Quinn.
As of now, Kite Man hasn’t been renewed for a second season. But, if it is, Rebecca Chen would be the perfect villain for Kite Man and Golden Glider. It establishes Chen as their big villain and the Anti-Life Equation being something Kite Man and Glider deal with on their own. Stay tuned to Caped Crusades to see if Anti-Life Equation and other villainous things show up in season 5 of Harley Quinn.
