This week, there are more than a few Bat Family comic book to check out. Some of them are for younger audiences like The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries No. 12 and others are beyond the norm like Batman - Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns No. 2. However, these upcoming five new Batman-centric comic books are the ones you want to grab this week if you’re a fan of the Bat Family.
Batgirl No. 2 (pick of the week)
- Writer: Tate Brombal
- Artist: Takeshi Miyazawa
Out of nowhere, Cassandra Cain’s mother Lady Shiva returns. Shiva tells her daughter they need to leave Gotham because the Unburied wants them dead. Of course, Cassie is against it even after they're attacked, and chased, and Shiva's hideout explodes.
In issue No. 2 of Batgirl, Cassandra is forced to help her mother after she’s injured. Plus we’ll see who’s leading the Unburied and possibly learn why they want them dead.
Batman No. 155
- Writer: Chip Zdarsky
- Artist: Jorge Fornes
Chip Zdarsky’s “Dying City” keeps rolling. On one side, Bruce Wayne’s life is threatened by The Court of Owls revealing that Bruce may have a brother. Bruce also has to deal with the Riddler acting legit while working with the Court. Meanwhile, Commander Star continues to stir the pot and make some Gotham citizens feel uncared for and forgotten. And let’s not forget that Vandal Savage is the commissioner of the Gotham City Police Force and remains okay with Star's actions.
While Bruce Wayne has fought battles in his personal and vigilante life, this seems more than normal. Hopefully, this issue will have a moment where something good happens for the Dark Knight and Bruce Wayne. He’s been taking it on the chin.
Birds of Prey No. 16
- Writer: Kelly Thompson
- Artist: Sami Basri
Kelly Thompson’s Birds of Prey has yet to let me down and I doubt it’ll start now. Besides Cassandra Cain (Batgirl) getting ready to fight a mysterious monster, we’ll hopefully get to see Big Barda show up to fight whoever’s holding Cassie hostage.
Barda isn't happy that she can't help her friend Small Bat (Cassie) so she'll likely unleash Hell when she gets her hands on them. Plus, I don’t know what ComiXology means by “Small Bat gets big”, but color me intrigued. Did this company turn an Amazon into a bat?
Two-Face No. 1
- Writer: Christian Ward
- Artist: Fabio Veras
We haven’t seen Two-Face in a starring role in a long time, but the former District Attorney and past friend of Bruce Wayne is front and center. In this series, Dent’s darker side is looking to take charge for good. Meanwhile, Harvey is using his skills as a lawyer to help ”resolve the conflicts” between criminals. Among the people he's helping is one of the most deplorable villains in comics, Victor Zsasz, who’s claiming he’s innocent. Well, innocent of what he’s accused of this time.
Poison Ivy No. 28
- Writer: G. Willow Wilson
- Artist: Marcio Takara
In a world with people like Superman and Wonder Woman, it’s easy to forget how powerful Poison Ivy is. However, writer G. Willow Wilson’s Poison Ivy is a reminder that she’s among the strongest beings in all of comics. That being said, all power comes with consequences and responsibility. According to ComiXology, the Order of the Green Knight is one of the forces that will show Ivy the error of her changed ways.
