Most of Batman’s best villains go on to get solo ongoing series or mini-series. Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Joker are good examples. You’d be shocked to know that it’s been years since Two-Face’s name has been on the cover as the series star. The closest was 2021's Task Force Z. On December 4th, 2024 that will change as Two-Face gets a limited series similar to Tom King’s Penguin.
DC.com says the series will focus on both the good and bad of both of Harvey's personalities saying, “As the good Harvey explores a Perry Mason-like life as an attorney-at-law, bad Harvey doesn’t just want partial control of the body, but full control of the mind!” Later in the article, writer Christian Ward gives more information on the series. “...Harvey is trying to use his criminology skills to resolve the conflicts of Gotham’s weird and dangerous criminal underground…all the while he has his eye on a return to civilized society and perhaps reconciling with his old friend, Bruce Wayne.”
This sounds like a great idea. But there’s more to be excited about. Among them is a different look at what Two-Face is capable of and how the creative team tells his stories.
"After years of internal conflict, both halves of Harvey Dent have reached an uneasy peace. In DC’s new Two-Face series, Harvey uses his skills as an attorney to resolve the conflicts of Gotham’s weirdest and most dangerous criminals, starting with Victor Zsasz." -DC.com
Tom King did a fantastic job in Penguin where he reminded readers that Oswald Cobblepot looks weak, but he’s far from it. However, during Sam Johns’ Joker, Jim Gordon was the focus while the Clown Prince of Crime took a back seat. Both options made for interesting takes on the lives and crimes of Gotham’s worst. It’ll be nice to see what direction writer Christian Ward and artist Fábio Veras go in, especially with Victor Zsasz involved.
In this series, Zsasz is accused of killing someone from Gotham City’s underworld. Normally, no one would care if Zsasz gets the short end of the stick but Harvey Dent believes in due process. That being said, what does Two-Face want? Better yet, is he the one guilty of the murder? Stay tuned to Caped Crusades to learn what happens in DC Comics Two-Face.
