James Gunn’s DC Comics universe started with the arrival of Creature Commandos on HBO Max. Matt Reeves’ universe has begun with two successful projects (The Batman and The Penguin). Their universes may not be connected, but they’re both just getting started. That means actors will need to be cast to play various roles. These ten actors are all people who would fit in Gunn or Reeves’ universe or an Elseworld project.
Hassie Harrison
Hassie Harrison is probably known better for her role in Yellowstone, but this writer knows her from Tacoma FD. Sure, the show is a comedy, but it shows she has a big personality and a lot of enthusiasm. She’d be perfect playing someone like Barbara Gordon. Either as Batgirl or Oracle.
Taron Egerton
It's easy to see Taron Egerton play an angry but emotional Jason Todd who’s starting his vengeance against Batman or an older Red Hood who has his life together. He also has the skills to go from Gotham District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to the sadistic Two-Face. There are also a host of other heroes and villains he could play. The guy is super talented.
Chloe Bennett
Chloe Bennett should be a no-brainer. We’ve seen her be amazing as Quake in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and voice the character in animated projects too. That shows she has experience in action roles as well as voice acting. It would be cool to hear her voice someone like Catwoman in a solo project or Rose Wilson.
Lizze Broadway
Lizze Broadway has been a performer since 2010, but playing Emma in Gen V could be where she's made her name. She showed her talent by displaying a wide range of emotions throughout the season and she's only 26. This writer doesn’t know what character she could play, but there’s no way there isn’t a spot for her on the Bat Family’s roster.
Sydney Sweeney
By the time her career is over, Sydney Sweeney will have more acting awards than she’ll know what to do with. You can see how much she’s improved in everything from White Lotus to The Handmaiden’s Tale to Euphoria. And not being a stranger to action or horror flicks means she’ll fit right in Gotham City. Maybe she can play a certain villain with a poisonous touch.
Naomi Scott
Naomi Scott doesn’t get enough credit for three vastly underrated performances. First in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (despite the box office, it was good) then as Jasmine in Aladdin, and lastly as Skye Riley in Smile 2. Playing the Huntress (Helena Bertinelli) would fit like a glove. She has the right attitude for the character.
Julian Micevski (Ethan Page)
It’s been a while since a new wrestler came in with an arrogant personality like Ethan Page. He even calls his finisher the Ego's Edge (a name based on the Razor's Edge). The best part is he backs up the narcissism with good in-ring performances and great promos. This writer says to strap a gun to his arm, put a bomb in his brain, and set him up with Amanda Waller. He’d be great as Deadshot.
Lukita Maxwell
Lukita Maxwell's role in Shrinking has shown this writer a lot. She has the ability to be silly, serious, friendly, and mean. All of these are qualities of Cassandra Cain. She’s young enough to play the character as she is now and evolve with the Bat Family as the universe grows. It would be a good idea for Warner Bros. to get her on the team before Marvel does.
Ming-Na Wen
Besides being a beloved actress and being recognizable, Ming-Na Wen could easily play Lady Shiva. We’ve seen her kick all sorts of butt throughout Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and beyond. But the thing that stays with me is her seriousness. Yes, she has a wonderful smile, but her angry face is terrifying and Lady Shiva needs someone who can pull this off.
David Harbour
Everyone loves David Harbour. He’s funny, lovable, and great in every action movie he’s been in (we don’t talk about Hellboy). However, it would be good to see him in a more serious role. That’s why this writer is casting him as Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Returns. He has the build, age, and gritty voice that are perfect for this role. If not that particular Batman, Thomas Wayne from Flashpoint works too.
