Robert Pattinson says he could retire after The Batman trilogy ends, but the comment isn’t what it seems. There could be more of The Dark Knight coming and we should be thankful.

There were plenty of mixed reviews when Robert Pattinson was cast as The Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Despite being an accomplished actor since the Twilight movies, people couldn't get past him being Edward Cullen. Thankfully, most of the people who were concerned about the casting had a change of heart after it was released. Not only was Pattinson a better Batman than most people thought he’d be, but the success of the film led to HBO’s successful project The Penguin.

It’s been two years since The Batman was released in theaters and it looks like the sequel (The Batman Part 2) will debut on October 2026 according to Screen Rant. Having a possible date is good news for fans anticipating the movie. However, Robert Pattinson may have broken some hearts with his recent comment.

During a New York Times interview, Pattinson said, “I could genuinely be retiring by the end of them.” However, the Screen Rant article mentions that this quote should be taken with a grain of salt. Pattinson’s retirement comments were in response to the time it's taking for the filming to start and the movie’s eventual release. And, if we’re being honest, on top of the comment being funny, it may be a genuine concern.

If The Batman Part 2 is released in October 2026 as scheduled, that means there was a four-year gap between movies That's only if the movie doesn't experience delays due to random shenanigans. Either way, some fans will have forgotten the feeling they had when they initially watched The Batman. While the movie is available to rent or buy on services like Apple TV and Prime Video and streaming for free on Max, rewatching it won’t give you the same feelings as seeing it for the first time.

Thankfully, this won’t be a downer article. Like it was said earlier, Robert Pattinson may have been joking about retiring. As this article is being written, the actor is only 38 years old. Hugh Jackman filmed Deadpool and Wolverine in his 50s and he may not be done with the character. If Pattinson wanted to, he could continue to be Bruce Wayne/The Caped Crusader for over another ten years if he wanted to. This would lead to having a consistency that previous Batman movies didn’t have since they concluded after two or three films.

Matt Reeves already has The Penguin under his belt and we can assume other projects in The Batman universe are on their way. If that’s the case, this could be the first extended universe for the Dark Knight. It’s something fans may not have known they needed. Stay tuned to Caped Crusades to see if that happens.
