We are less than two weeks away from the premiere of The Penguin on HBO Max. Once again, Colin Farrell will bring his well-known acting prowess to The Batman Universe. This time in its first spin-off.

Colin Farrell did a great job during The Batman and the newest trailer shows that the future for its spinoffs is bright. This could be attributed to Cobblepot's improvement. In the trailer below, you'll see he's no longer a sniveling second in command. He's looking for power and willing to get his hands dirty in the process.

"I hustle. Do what it takes." -Oswald Cobblepot

The first noticeable thing in The Penguin trailer is that Cobblepot is in the thick of things. He isn’t hiding in the Iceberg Lounge while his goons do all the work. He’s in the field talking to his workers and killing people. It’s a sign that he isn’t afraid of the target on his head and that the people in his employ need to see that their boss isn't a coward. The moments could occur at various stages of the mini-series. Nevertheless, it happens.

There are versions of The Penguin where he spends more time crying and squawking than fighting. Those days are long gone. The recent comic books have shown the ruthlessness and cunning of Oswald Cobblepot. Tom King’s The Penguin is a perfect example of this. Of course, you’ll see Oz hide and run away when he’s in a no-win situation. But that balance of knowing when to fight or fly makes him an interesting character.

"So much was taken from me. So I'm gonna take from them now, and together, force everyone, to their knees." -Sofia Falcone

In a previous article, I discussed the differences between Sofia Falcone in Batman: Long Halloween and Cristin Milioti's version of her. The conclusion was that Milioti would be great in this role and that size doesn't matter. The two trailers prove my theory correct.

The first trailer makes it seem like she’s at odds with Oswald. The second looks like she’s on his side. Both will be true. Sofia Falcone plans to take what belonged to her father and should go to her. The only person in her way is Cobblepot. Will she use him when needed? She certainly will.

Using Oawald is the smart thing to do. However, when the time comes, viewers will learn that the name The Hangman doesn’t just sound cool. It's how Sofia Falcone deals with people who cross her. Will Oswald end up with a noose around his neck? Stay tuned to Caped Crusades for more on The Penguin as the news comes out.
