Episode 2 of The Penguin starts with Sofia Falcone in Arkham on her way to see her brother. However, it isn’t what it appears to be. Sofia is in a therapy session to cope with her time in Arkham and the death of her brother, Alberto. What we see is her visions via a kind of light therapy. Things quickly transition to Oz Cobb talking with Salvatore Maroni about taking Falcone’s drugs and money for themselves.

“I’m not safe. I’m home.” -Sofia Falcone

As Oz’s operations move, Johnny Viti makes a last-minute change. He was supposed to follow the vehicles. This way, he'd be safe from Maroni’s men. Viti puts Oz inside the truck but Maroni’s men don’t know about the changes. Thankfully, Oz works it out.

Oz had to keep his involvement away from the Falcone Family, especially from Sofia. As expected, Oz does his magic and everything works out perfectly. He had to kill someone to do it and Victor almost got Oz caught, but he survived.

Oz frames the person closest to Soifa as the person who killed her brother. Sofia asks for a gun to kill them, but Luca Falcone shoots them. Sofia is furious and yells at her uncle. She wanted to be the one to kill her brother's murderer. Her outburst and the negative press surrounding her Hangman scandal cause Luca to tell Sofia she should leave Gotham. Now Sofia has no one to turn to except Oz.

“So I’m going to take from them now. And I’m going to force them to their knees.” -Sofia Falcone

Two episodes in and The Penguin remains a day of must-watch. Sometimes the second episode falls off because the premiere was so good. Not here. As the series continues to improve, so will the character development. Sofia's in particular. In episode 1 of The Penguin, Sofia claims she’s not crazy and tired of people saying she has an overactive imagination. The scratches on her neck could prove her right.

Viewers see that the scars came from her grabbing her neck in her sleep. It looked like she was trying to get someone's hands off her throat. Plus there's the gasping for air. Is this trauma from being hung and not being The Hangman?

As the show progresses, we see her life outside Arkham isn’t going well either. The stain of being called The Hangman remains and being a Falcone isn’t helping her. Gotham Citizens want her sent back to Arkham. Even her family doesn’t trust her. The scene with her cousin’s daughter was proof. She didn’t even trust Sofia right in front of her.

Sofia's uncle (Luca Falcone) telling her she needs to leave Gotham was probably the last straw for Sofia. This helped Oz further his goal of getting her trust. It's funny that Luca hates Oz and may have inadvertently started the ball rolling on his downfall and Oz's rise to power.

“You wanna survive? You gotta adapt.” -Oz Cobblepot

Oz will spend most of this show getting out of situations he put himself in. You’d think this will get tiring, but it’s a formula that’s worked for shows like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, and The Shield. As long as it continues to be well with Oz creatively making this work for him, The Penguin will be a weekly must-watch show instead of a binge.
