Dick Grayson and Jason Todd cartoon "Dynamic Duo" is happening
By Mark Lynch
The DC Comics team has been working hard at producing content. Recently, it was announced that Bane and Deathstroke have a movie in the works. Less than a week later, another project was announced and will star the Dynamic Duo…kind of. Variety reports that the animated feature titled Dynamic Duo “will serve as an origin story for Robin and Robin.”
"Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, DYNAMIC DUO, the story of Robin…or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd." -James Gunn
There have been five Robins, but this will star the first two, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, and written by Coco writer Matthew Aldrich. That means this will be more than just a story full of action. There will be depth and emotional moments from Jason and Dick.
Dick Grayson and Jason Todd’s rivalry started when they were young and continued when they got older. Telling a story about them when they’re younger is a brilliant idea. People know Jason Todd as the Red Hood and fans voted to have him killed (Batman: Death in the Family), but there’s more to him than that. This is an opportunity to dive further into Jason’s history and make him more sympathetic. With Matthew Aldrich writing it, Jason will be well taken care of.
This seems to be something adventurous. CBR says Dynamic Duo will be a cross-between CGI animation, practical elements of stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance made by Momo Animation. That may give it a feel like the Spider-Verse movies. For those concerned about continuity, don’t worry. Dynamic Duo will be produced by Matt Reeves. However, it will be separate from The Batman and The Penguin. T
It isn’t shocking that this won't connect to other DCU projects (at least until a Crisis). DC Comics has a history of keeping its animated features away from its movies and some of its shows. It's an easy way to tell stories without confusing the audience or making them watch multiple shows to keep up with the story. Some of the animated features connect to other animated projects but don't involve the cinematic releases.
