A Bane and Deathstroke project should be championed

James Gunn and Peter Safran green lighting a Bane and Deathstroke movie is another example of the DCU thinking outside of the box and they should be praised for the move.

As a comic book fan, I want something new from movies and shows. Recycling the same characters can get tiresome. Should we see classic characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman? Of course, we should. They’re safe staples that produce money. Without them, fans won’t get future projects from heroes like Nightwing, Red Hood, and Batgirl. That brings us to two of Batman’s deadliest enemies, Deathstroke and Bane.

Recently, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that a Deathstroke and Bane movie is in the works. Both villains have caused the Dark Knight more pain than anyone not named Joker or Joe Chill. Besides being deadly, they’re both entertaining characters for different reasons. Slade Wilson (Deathstroke) is sarcastic and witty, but his unpredictability makes him interesting. Bane, isn't big on jokes. His intelligence and planning make him popular.

A Bane and Deathstroke movie will likely give moviegoers something brutal. We can expect a "buddy" movie but unlike Deadpool and Wolverine. These two will loathe each other. Not because they're on opposing sides of the law. Bane and Deathstroke have high opinions of themselves and their skills. This will lead to them fighting each other and arguing about who's the best while attempting to achieve their goals. Not to mention they'll debate on who should be in charge.

So far, comic book fans are split about this news. There hasn’t been any news about Batman or Wonder Woman being cast in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, but a Bane and Deathstroke film is coming. To some, that may seem like a mistake. However, this should be looked at in a positive light.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are thinking outside of the box. The first movie up is Superman (July 2025) and it’s a smart move. He’s a profitable character, but it’s more than that. It will feature Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, and Guy Gardner. If you aren't a comic book fan, you may not know them. Their appearance will bring attention to them on a major platform and lead to future projects.

Before Superman is Creature Commandos (December 5, 2024). After that, Lanterns, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and the anticipated season 2 of Peacemaker are coming. What you may notice is the balance. Fans are getting everything they want while Gunn and Safran sprinkle in other characters to keep their universe full of colorful and intriguing characters. It’ll be different than other projects like Superman and Lanterns. This gives their universe various movies for a wider audience and that is a beautiful thing.

Stay tuned to Caped Crusades for more on the upcoming Bane and Deathstroke project as the news comes out.
