Which Batman characters would get a Lantern Power Ring?

Like the Lantern Power Rings, Batman and his family members' emotions vary from person to person. This article will break down which family members would be the best candidates for a power ring and why.

Lantern Power Rings come in different colors and represent different parts of the emotional spectrum. There’s willpower (green), rage (red) hope (blue), violet (love), orange (greed), yellow (fear), indigo (compassion), and violet (love). More have been introduced that don't follow emotions like black (death) and white (life). Recently, in Green Lantern No. 14 by Jeremy Adams, a Grey Lantern was added to represent sorrow. It wouldn't be shocking if jealousy started powering a ring.

Not everyone is worthy of a ring. You have to show a profound amount of emotion to be worthy of one. With that, it seemed like a good idea to pair a Lantern Power Ring with members of the Bat Family and some of their villains. Let’s begin with the most popular Lantern Corps, the Green Lantern and willpower.

Green Lantern: Barbara Gordon/Batgirl

Oath:
"In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power--Green Lantern's light!"

When Joker paralyzed her, she found a new way to help. She used her vast intelligence and organizational skills to become Oracle. After regaining the use of her legs, she bounced between being Oracle and Batgirl.

If being paralyzed and never giving up the life of a hero doesn’t scream willpower, what does? There were still risks of physical danger, but Barabara Gordon didn’t care. She willed through the pain and self-doubt.

Blue Lantern: Dick Grayson/Nightwing

Oath:
"In fearful day, in raging night,
With strong hearts full, our souls ignite.
When all seems lost in the War of Light,
Look to the stars, for hope burns bright!"

No one on Earth deserves a hope-powered ring more than Dick Grayson. He’s been through more than anyone should and keeps a genuine smile on his face. There have been times when he’s been down and doubted himself and others, but that doesn't last long.

Tom Taylor's run of NIghtwing is a perfect example. Dick was so optimistic that he took the billions given to him and invested it in Bludhaven. He knew his city could be better when everyone thought it was a lost cause.

Red Lantern: Jason Todd/Red Hood

Oath:
"With blood and rage of crimson red,
Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead,
Together with our hellish hate,
We'll burn you all--that is your fate!"

The Red Lantern Rings are powered by intense rage that normally stems from a tragedy and the need for revenge. This fits Jason Todd perfectly. Joker beat him with a crowbar, left him for dead, and then blew up the warehouse he was in (Batman: A Death in the Family). Then, he comes back to life to find out Batman replaced him and Joker is still alive.

All of his anger towards Bruce Wayne and Joker will never leave. He may have made peace with Bruce, but the fury for him is still in there. Jason even wears the Red Lantern color scheme. This is too fitting.

Sinestro Corps: Batman and Joker

Oath:
"In blackest day, in brightest night,
Beware your fears made into light.
Let those who try to stop what's right
Burn like my power Sinestro's might!"

Batman has incredible willpower, but he runs on fear like the East Coast of the U.S. runs on Dunkin’ Donuts’ coffee. He works in the shadows to scare his victims. He even scares his friends. Whether it’s because he has zero self-awareness or he’s trying to keep them on their toes remains to be seen. Actually, both could be true.

The only person who’s as frightening as the Dark Knight is Joker. Heroes like Batman and Superman are scared of him because he’s unpredictable. They aren’t afraid to fight him. They’re just aware that there’s nothing he won’t do to hurt or kill people. That unpredictability is more dangerous than most people they face.

Alternate character: Killer Croc

Star Sapphires: Harley Quinn

Oath:
"For hearts long lost and full of fright,
For those alone in Blackest Night.
Accept our ring and join our fight,
Love conquers all with violet light!"

Harley Quinn’s relationship with Joker makes her a prime candidate for the Star Sapphires. She was genuinely in love with the Clown Prince of Crime and did anything she asked. Her feelings eventually became more Stockholm than real emotions, but there was still love there.

Joker’s constant abuse, rejection, and lies to get her back should’ve gotten her on their corps. Who was more physically and mentally hurt than her? The only reason she may not have is because she finally found the love of her life in Poison Ivy.

Alternate character: Stephanie Brown

Indigo Tribe: Bane

Oath:
"Tor lorek san, bor nakka mur,
Natromo faan tornek wot ur.
Ter Lantern ker lo Abin Sur,
Taan lek lek nok--Formorrow Sur!"

If you’re bringing in the worst criminals and killers, you can’t go wrong with Bane. You may say Joker, but this writer doubts that even the power of a Lantern Power Ring would work on him. He’s too unstable mentally. However, Bane has some compassion. This could be the chance he needs at redemption. If not, at least the Indigo Tribe has another soldier in their army.

Alternate characters: Deadshot and Deathstroke

Orange Lantern: Oswald Cobblepot

Oath:
"What's mine is mine and mine and mine.
And mine and mine and mine!
Not yours!"

There’s only one person greedier than Lex Luthor, Carmine Falcone, and Sal Maroni combined and that’s Oswald Cobblepot. Despite coming from money, he’s had to work for everything. No one took him seriously. Being underrated and underappreciated drove him to want everything he felt was owed to him and more. And, as Michael Jordan said, he took it personally.

Oswald wasn’t happy with just being rich. He needed the people of Gotham to see him as a philanthropist, the criminals had to understand he was dangerous, and the people enforcing the law had to look at him as untouchable. It’s a good thing he never accomplished all of these goals. He’d move on to world domination. With his smarts and savviness, that could have been a reachable goal.

Alternate character: Black Mask
