If years of reading and writing covering comic books and superhero projects have taught this writer anything, it’s to never judge a project by the star character. Take a look at the creative team. In this case, there’s writer Christian Ward and artist Fábio Veras. The two have collaborated to create a Two-Face series that’s been double the pleasure for readers.
Two-Face No. 2 Creative Team
- Writer: Christian Ward
- Art by: Fábio Veras
- Cover: Baldemar Rivas
- Colorist: Ivan Plascencia
It started with the introduction of a court for criminals called the White Church. It’s where murderers, thieves, and more can have their grievances worked out with their peers. For Harvey Dent, it’s a way for him to get back in the good graces of the real law system where he became an icon. Meanwhile, Two-Face is locked away in Dent’s mind and is close to escaping.
"Yes, Harvey...give in to it. Embrace the violence!"Two-Face Writer: Christian Ward
\There are a lot of things to like about Two-Face No. 2. First are the visuals. Fábio Veras’ art with Ivan Plascencia’s colors perfectly captures the grimness and dirtiness of Gotham’s underground. However, they somehow manage to make it look intriguing. For example, there’s a scene in a club for adult entertainment that looks like fun with a hint of danger. Later, we see the White Church and it looks like an event you don’t want to miss. All of this is due to the amazing artwork from Fábio Veras’ and Ivan Plascencia.
Then there’s the writing of Christian Ward. He’s telling multiple stories at once without making things feel jumbled or confusing. Of course, the main part is Harvey and Two-Face’s battle for control of their body. That’s what people are coming to see. But adding a mentor-like relationship with the new character, Lake Cantwell, was a nice touch.
"I used to be bad. Now I'm trying to be good."Harvey Dent Writer: Christian Ward
Lake Cantwell appears to know Harvey is the dominant personality and Harvey appreciates her intelligence and attention to detail. So much so that he gives her a job as his assistant in the field. Without her, Dent would’ve lost his most recent case. She proved herself to be resourceful and writer Christian Ward shows that there’s depth to her with a quick look into her backstory.
I won’t spoil any more of the story because this issue is worth reading. Ward developing the relationship between Harvey Dent and Two-Face is interesting and seeing how Harvey’s kept his other half in place is smart. Christian Ward also revealed where the danger is coming from at the perfect moment.
So pick up this series now instead of waiting for the trade. It’s worth the monthly anticipation.
