The third episode of The Penguin on HBO Max spent time on Victor Aguilar. People watch the show for Oz Cobb and Sofia Falcone, but Victor is an important part of the show. That became obvious during the final moments of episode 3 titled “Bliss”. Before we get into what happened, you need to know the build-up.

“Bliss” starts by explaining Victor’s life before Oz. When the flood caused by Riddler’s bombs exploded during The Batman, he was on a roof with his girlfriend, Graciela. The flood that consumed some of Gotham City killed his parents. All Vic could do was watch.

In the the present, Vic is on a date with Graciela who says she’s leaving Gotham for California. The schools are better and her family is dead. Other than him, she has no reason to stay. Graciela asks him to come with her. He’s hesitant at first but changes his mind.

Later, Sofia and Oz make a deal with the Triads to sell their new drug, Bliss (for more on that, check out the review and recap). To show what the drug can do, Oz and Sofia give a demonstration in the club they’re at with Vic distributing the product. Eventually, the head of the Triads agrees to Oz and Sofia’s terms.

During the party in the club, the explosions remind Vic of the night the bombs went off in Gotham. This causes him to retreat to the bathroom. Oz walks in and sees Vic wants to leave and he's scared to tell him.

Oz aggressively tells Victor he wasn’t held hostage and could leave whenever he wanted. Vic gets into Oz’s car and drives to the bus station. Instead of leaving, he watches Graciela get on the bus to California. Oz is lucky Vic didn’t.

As Oz and Sofia talk Nadia Maroni arrives with her goons. Nadia is furious at Oz for trying to play her. Before she can order Oz's death, Vic crashes into one of the goons and saves Oz’s life. However, Oz doesn’t help Sofia. He leaves her there stranded.

What does this mean?

Sofia and Oz just had a moment where all was forgiven for their past and they finished a lucrative deal to sell Bliss. Instead of trying to save Sofia, Oz ditches her. Even worse, he didn’t care what would happen to her. There will be hell to pay for what happened especially after she was vulnerable in front of him.

Sofia knows Oz can’t be trusted, but this is different. He won’t be able to talk himself out of this. He left her and didn’t bother to double back. However, this is Oz Cobb. He could talk his way to Heaven out of Hell. But Sofia isn’t Satan or God. She’s the Hangman. Let’s see how she reacts to Oz’s second betrayal. They have to work together to distribute Bliss...or do they? Stay tuned to Caped Crusades to find out what's next.
