Fictional characters getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame isn’t strange. However, you have to be one of the greats. Micky and Minnie Mouse, The Simpsons, and Shrek are some of the few honored over the years. However, there aren’t any comic book characters. That will change on September 26th as Batman is honored by becoming the first among his peers.
Before writing this article, I was shocked that Superman isn’t on the Walk of Fame. He’s widely known as the greatest superhero ever. Without his presence, comic books aren't what they are today. That being said, Batman being the first makes sense.
Unlike most heroes in comic books, Batman doesn’t have powers. He has billions of dollars, a genius intellect, and a never-say-quit attitude. The money part isn’t relatable, but everything else is. Bruce Wayne has earned his skills through decades of hard work. Plus, from 2020 (Joker War) to 2024 (Batman No. 149), he didn’t have his billions and continued to put his life on the line. It seemed like DC Comics did this to prove that Bruce would be Batman regardless of his financial status. That’s part of why he’s being immortalized among the greats.
Funko will be part of the day as well. Joining the Funko Hollywood event will fan-favorite artist Jim Lee. From 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, Jim Lee will participate in a meet and greet for attendees who get an exclusive wristband. Unfortunately, the wristbands will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 100 fans who purchase a Batman product at Funko Hollywood on Tuesday, September 24.
If that isn’t enough, there will be a Batman pop-up museum where exclusive items will be displayed. People will see props and costumes from various Batman projects. There's no way this is the end of the announcements. We should expect to hear about some of them on Batman Day (September 21st).
This is a historic event for one of the best heroes of any genre, but it's bigger than Batman. This is a win for comic book fans and creators. It helps legitimize a medium that's been around for over a hundred years and continues to thrive. It will lead to more comic book characters joining the Dark Knight. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man all deserve to be immortalized. When that happens, Caped Crusades, Bam Smack Pow, and Whatever A Spider Can will be here to announce it.
The all-day event will take place at Funko Hollywood (6201 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028).
