There is always something going on with Batman and his family and multiple comic books where they happen. Instead of sifting through various articles to find out what happened, here are the important moments of August 2024. This way, you can decide which comic books to read or catch up on what you missed.

Nightwing No. 117

  • Writer: Tom Taylor
  • Artist: Bruno Redondo

Nightwing gets over his fear of heights and falling by learning a big secret. He remembers that the day his parents died, he was supposed to swing when they did. It was their normal routine. That means Tony Zucco was trying to kill Dick Grayson and not his parents.

Dick won’t kill Zucco for this, but you have to wonder how he’ll react in Tom Taylor’s final issue of Nightwing. This will be a must-read conclusion.

Absolute Power No. 2

  • Writer: Mark Waid
  • Artist: Dan Mora

In more Nightwing news, Dick Grayson had his big moment since being put in charge of Earth’s protection (Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths). While the older heroes like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman argued over who should lead, Nightwing stood up and took charge. He gave a speech that got every hero motivated for the job ahead. Depowered or not, they were inspired and ready to fight back.

Comic book fans will look back at Absolute Power No. 2 as one of Dick Grayson’s finest moments.

DC vs Vampires: World War V No. 1

  • Writer: Matthew Rosenberg
  • Artist: Otto Schmidt

Barbara Gordon may have been killed by a bomb from Hush after he says Damian Wayne sent him. However, Damian couldn't have sent Hush. He and Kate Kane’s message to Barbara was sent via a vampire they let live.

Meanwhile, a new Batman is running around and no one knows who it is. The easy guess is that it's Jace Fox. It would be cool to see him take the mantle since it happened in DC Comics Future State and he's a Batman on Earth-Prime.

Every major storyline involves someone from the Bat Family. This means the end of this Elseworld tale ends with a defining moment from someone close to Batman.

Batman No. 151

  • Writers: Chip Zdarsky and Tini Howard
  • Artist: Mike Hawthorne

Batman and Catwoman head to one of Amanda Waller’s strongholds to get the source of her power (a Motherbox) and they’re confronted by Bizarro, Clock King, Black Alice, and Deadeye. They escape, but the villains eventually catch up with them.

The description for Batman No. 152 says that some of Waller’s Suicide Squad won’t make it back. Does that mean they'll die or does one of them have a change of heart?

Gotham City Sirens

  • Writer: Leah Williams
  • Artists: Daniel Hillyard, Brandt & Stein, and Matteo Lolli

Gotham City Sirens may not connect to the main continuity, but it was an amazing read. The best part wasn't Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, or Catwoman. It was Punchline. Leah Williams seemed to focus on her improvement as a villain. Hopefully, future writers will see her potential. Punchline should become a big-time Gotham Villain.

Batman/Superman: World's Finest No. 30

  • Writer: Mark Waid
  • Artist: Gleb Melnikov

Mark Waid brings Batman and Superman to Themyscira for the first time to help solve the only murder in the island's history. Without their help, a petty god and her brother would’ve destroyed the Themyscira.

Batman/Superman: World's Finest No. 30 happens early in DC's Trinity's relationship. It's a moment that helped make them friends forever. It's also a fun stand-alone story and a great starting point for anyone wanting to read this series.
