The creative process isn’t commonly thought of when people think about movies and shows. There are a ton of complex things that go into a project. For example, editing. It’s more than just the audio and visual. There are multiple drafts of a script after the final alterations are done. Changes in actors, location, and directors affect how a character and scene are written.

During a recent interview with Variety, Matt Reeves and Zoe Kravitz talk about the gift and the curse of directing and being directed. One of the things Kravitz mentioned is how meticulous Reeves is and why it's a wonderful quality because he cares so much.

"You’re an incredibly meticulous filmmaker. I just asked you how it’s going with writing [‘Part II’] and you said, ‘Slow,’ and I think that’s a wonderful quality, because you care so much.”"
Zoe Kravitz
"“I wanted to put myself in the trash. It was really rough. It did not work for a very long time.”"
Zoe Kravitz on editing being a pain

Being meticulous is one of the reasons people love The Batman. There was a certain attention to detail with the characters and their personalities that brought everything together. However, Reeves admits that it leads to projects taking longer saying, “It’s wonderful, except for the speed of getting something done. The thing is that for me, I feel like it’s not a choice. I always feel like I would never do it the way I’m doing it, except that that’s the only way I know how to do it."

Within the meticulousness of Matt Reeves’ writing comes good news. The Batman Part 2 script is almost done! Reeves told Zoe Kravitz, “Yeah, we’re finishing the script. We’re going to be shooting next year.”

With that good news comes some concern. He didn’t say the script was finished. He said they’re finishing it up. As it was mentioned earlier, when you’ve completed your writing, you’re not actually finished. Reeves will change things up to and throughout the filming of The Batman Part 2 because he wants things done right.

Matt Reeves’ history in writing and directing speaks for itself. It’s why movies like War for the Planet of the Apes were so good. You can’t always rely on action to get people to theaters. In cases like this, someone with “extreme” attention to detail is a must. It’s an easy way to keep everyone from the comic book to the casual fan happy.

Casting Robert Pattinson

There were two sides when it came to Robert Pattinson becoming Batman. You either loved the idea or couldn’t get past him being in Twilight. I can proudly say he was on the pro side of him becoming Bruce Wayne. However, for me, Tenant was where I was sold. Matt Reeves said he thought of Pattinson as he was writing The Batman. Then, someone brought up one of Pattinson’s best performances and that solidified it.

"“...somewhere in there, someone told me to watch [the 2017 Robert Pattinson movie] 'Good Time'. And I was like, ‘That’s the only person I could imagine as this Batman. I don’t think that I know what it is if it’s not him.’ It was weirdly fated, because it turned out that he was obsessed with Batman.”"
Matt Reeves

This is why it’s best to wait before poorly judging the casting of your favorite characters. This writer is guilty of doing it and is trying to be better. Nevertheless, being concerned is different than spreading negativity across the internet. Hopefully, people will be kinder when they see someone unconventional beings cast in roles.
