Don't look too deep into Batman's appearance in Creature Commandos

Batman appearing in Creature Commandos means he exists in James Gunn’s DCU, but fans shouldn’t look into who’s playing him based on his design.

If you aren’t watching Creature Commandos, you’re missing out. It’s proved that James Gunn was the right person to put in charge of the new DCU. Just like his Guardians of the Galaxy, he took unknown characters and made them fun with compelling and emotional stories. As this article is being written, the season finale hasn't been released. Nevertheless, the show has been well done.

During episode 4 (titled "Chasing Squirrels") Amanda Waller was shown a possible future. In it, we see Ilana Rostovic’s army has captured and possibly killed multiple heroes. Among them were Batman and Robin. Then, during a flashback in episode 6 ("Priyatel Skelet"), Doctor Phosphorus is greeted (and likely captured) by Batman. This is leaving fans to question if we're seeing Robert Pattinson or Ben Affleck's Dark Knight. That being said, this writer is here to say to not look too deep into The Caped Crusader's brief appearances.

"When they first gave it to me, we saw a LOT more Batman. And I was saying, ‘I am not ready to commit to that. I’m not ready to commit to that. I’m not ready to commit to that. ‘So I was just like, ‘more silhouette, more silhouette, more silhouette’."
James Gunn

People online are speculating because it would mean one of the previous actors is Batman in James Gunn’s DCU. However, there’s no truth to this so far. It’s why Gunn had the original design change. Initially, Batman was going to be more detailed. Smartly, Gunn decided to not commit to any design for the character (read the full quote above). Had there been anything linking to Affleck or Pattinson, we'd have more rumors and conspiracy articles than Mephisto being in WandaVision.

There is some good news within the episodes of Creature Commandos. We can confirm that Batman exists in this universe. Like this year’s Superman (which is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025), The Dark Knight is already established in this universe. Gunn has also said, “I'm not telling Batman and Superman's origin stories again because everyone knows them.” All of this leads to fans getting something different in the DCU.

Lastly, I truly believe there’s a reason James Gunn didn’t want to commit to a design. Either he doesn’t want it revealed or committing to a design means people will have unrealistic expectations. Regardless, don’t take the Creature Commandos’ appearance too seriously other than knowing that Batman is more than a legend. He exists in the DCU.
