Lots More Suicide Squad Info!
Lots more info on this year’s massive DC supervillain team-up, Suicide Squad!
Suicide Squad is the next big comic book film coming our way in 2016, and we still don’t know a ton about it, even with it only a couple months from release. Sure we know that some of the baddest villains in the DC universe are forced to work together on a probably suicidal mission, but we don’t really know anything about the mission itself or who they are up against or even what everybody’s deal really is. Well thanks to a new feature in this month’s edition of Total Film magazine, we’ve got a lot more insight into Suicide Squad!
Firstly, it seems that the main villain of Suicide Squad might simply be someone referred to as “The Adversary”, as producer Charles Roven explains these weird creatures the team is facing in the featured pic are called “The Eyes of The Adversary”:
"Let’s just say, when they’re called in to do this mission by Amanda [Waller], these are one of the things they encounter. They don’t know how they got here, but they’re weird and dangerous and yet they’re wearing military uniforms."
Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad opened up about her character and Harley’s realtionship with the Joker:
"She is a very cheerful, bubbly sort of person. A lot of the comments were like, ‘She has this unflappable sense of humor. She’s so bubbly. She loves the Joker so much.’ So I definitely didn’t want to lose that. Having said that, [David Ayer’s] approach is the much darker side of the story, so it’s a bit of both.Harley’s story is about her relationships — not just with him, but finding herself and her independence. Their relationship is nuts. It’s terrifying. She’s co-dependent with the Joker, and when you see that, you start seeing it as a mental illness."
Jai Courtney calls out his character Captain Boomerang as the “asshole” of the group:
"He’s sexist, he’s racist, he’s a total piece of shit and that’s something I’ve embraced fully. It’s Boomer’s job to state the obvious, do the wrong thing and annoy everybody with his ignorance."
But not everybody on the Suicide Squad is a criminal forced to do good. Rick Flag and Katana are both there voluntarily. Joel Kinnaman, who plays Rick Flag in the movie, talked about how his character reacts to working with a team of psychopaths:
"He wants to solve this with his team of operators that he can trust, but now he has these psychopaths that do no follow orders. Over the course of the movie he sees how effective they are and also that they have a moral foundation that they stand on."
Kinnaman also explained that while their backstory isn’t really explored, Katana totally has Rick Flag’s back in the film. Karen Fukuhara, who plays Katana talked about what her character’s journey is in Suicide Squad:
"Her journey is trying to find people she can trust. She starts off a lone wolf, but by the end of the movie she’s really become part of a family."

So the biggest question this leaves is who really is the villain of the Suicide Squad movie? Is it really just somebody called “The Adversary” who has weird mutated minions? Or is that a code name for someone? I certainly hope it’s the latter. We’ll find out when Suicide Squad opens in theaters August 5th.
