Gotham: Alfred Will Get A Love Interest

Gotham EP talks Alfred & Leslie Thompkins love life in season 3

Alfred has been a very, very loyal butler to young Bruce Wayne during the first two seasons of Gotham. But he hasn’t had much in the way of a personal life. Seriously, Bruce looks like a regular Casanova comparatively, and one of his girlfriend’s tried to sacrifice him to a cult. But that will change as EP John Stephens explained:

"Alfred finds love. He has a sixteen-year-old boy [Bruce] who, as these things happen, naturally kind of grows away from him. And suddenly someone enters his life who is connected to another character and Alfred is left with the idea of the possibility of another life there and it gives us a great storyline."

Stephens also teased Leslie Thompkins getting a new love interest now that she’s broken up with Jim Gordon. He doesn’t say who but teased him as a “scion of a particular Gotham crime family”. This most likely would be the recently cast Mario Falcone, son of Carmine Falcone. But Stephens didn’t specifically say it was Mario, so they could be throwing us a twist there.

Stephens isn’t getting too specific about who Alfred is going to be romantically involved with either. Though unless they are introducing someone else new down the line, I could easily see it being the recently cast Valerie Vale. Granted, there’s a significant age difference, but that’s not completely unusual. And that’s an easy connection to Vicki Vale, one of the great loves of Bruce Wayne in the comics. Of course that’s assuming Valerie Vale is around for more than a season.

Also as we’ve seen on Gotham, love doesn’t usually end well. We’ll see how these romances play out when Gotham returns for season 3 on Fox September 19th.
