Gotham: Nygma vs. Gordon
Gordon will finally see Nygma for who he really is on Gotham
James Gordon is out of prison, but on the run and trying desperately to prove he was set up. But the one who set up him up was of course, Edward Nygma, so these two are on a collision course that may carry through season two of Gotham and beyond. Gotham showrunner John Stephens talked about Gordon and Nygma coming into head on conflict this season.
"His first goal is going to be to try and clear his name. He doesn’t believe that if he goes off and tries to find Lee [Morena Baccarin], that they’re going to be able to have any sort of life if he’s going to have to live a life of a fugitive. He’s not going to ask her to do that. So he needs to find out who framed him, which will obviously set him on a collision course with Nygma. This particular showdown of Gordon vs. Nygma [is what] we’re going to see this season. You’ll absolutely see it happen sooner than you think. It’s going to set up a longer-term dynamic between the two of them as nemeses that is going to play throughout the life of the series. Gordon is really going to see Ed for who he is in terms of his darkness. Before all this, Gordon probably took Ed a little bit for granted and didn’t give full weight to Ed’s intelligence. Going forward past this episode, Gordon will have no choice but to acknowledge that. It’s the beginning of putting Ed up there with Penguin [Robin Lord Taylor] in terms of another nemesis for Gordon."

Of course the real question is if Gordon discovers Nygma for who he really is, and Gordon still has to deal with Nygma on a day to day basis, because he doesn’t have solid evidence at the moment. Either way though, it should be a fascinating dynamic to Riddler vs. Gordon to start, because normally it’s just handed off to Batman. See the beginnings of Nygma becoming Gordon’s newest and maybe biggest nemesis when Gotham returns on Fox next week!
