Roxy Rocket: Batman Character of the Week!

Welcome back Caped Crusades readers, to another Batman Character of the Week! As I stated in my first Character of the Week post, the purpose of this series is to help our readers better get to know the Batman characters who aren’t as famous as Robin and The Joker.

This week we are talking about Roxy Rocket, a minor villainess in Batman’s Rogues Gallery who was originally created in 1994. Roxy was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm for The Batman Adventures Annual #1 and adapted for The New Batman Adventures animated TV series which was a continuation of Batman The Animated Series also created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. Roxy Rocket also appeared on the sister show of The New Batman Adventures, Superman The Animated Series.

Roxy was born Roxanne Sutton and before becoming a villainess she was a stunt double in Hollywood. She lost her job when she could no longer be ensured because she was making her stunts too dangerous. It was then of course that she turned to a life of crime. Roxy is an adrenaline junky and her crimes reflected that, stealing jewels from the Penguin for example. Her crimes were considered benign compared to other Batman villains, because the only person she put at risk was herself.

Roxy Rocket developed a bit of a crush on Batman, believing he was her kindred spirit as he put himself at risk to chase her through the air, only realizing that her feelings weren’t returned when he had her arrested. You can read more about miss Rocket here, on her Wikipedia page.
