Game Informer has reported that the animated film set in the world of the Arkham video games Assault on Arkham officially has a release date! This Summer we can expect to see the first (but hopefully not the last) film to take place in the Arkham universe. Batman: Assault on Arkham is due to be released on Blu-Ray and DVD August 12th of this year. Here a bit of what Game Informer reporter Andrew Reiner had to say about the upcoming animated film:
Warner Bros. Animation’s next film, Batman: Assault on Arkham, is locked in for an August 12 release on Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital. This film is a direct sequel to the Batman: Arkham Origins video game, picking up with the post-credit scroll tease of the formation of the Suicide Squad, a government-controlled super villain team that does dirty work off of the books.
Their first mission is to infiltrate Arkham Asylum to secure classified documents that have fallen into The Riddler’s hands. This assignment quickly derails when Squad member Harley Quinn frees The Joker. The chaos draws the attention of Batman, who might as well turn Arkham Asylum into a second home, given how much time he spends there.
Read Reiner’s full article here. Happily the voice cast will include Kevin Conroy as Batman, Troy Baker as the Joker, and CCH Pounder as Amanda Waller. Hopefully the cast will also include Tara Strong as Harley Quinn, and I am excited to see the featurette The Joker’s Queen: Harley Quinn which will delve into the clown couple’s relationship.
You know I’m excited for Assault on Arkham, the trailer for it and the featurette about it on the Son of Batman DVD make it look pretty awesome, and we all know that DC makes great animated films. As always stick with Caped Crusades for more on Assault on Arkham and all your Batman needs!
