Review of Arkham Origins Blackgate Demo

facebooktwitterreddit

So I just finished playing the demo for Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe edition. And I’m honestly not sure if I like it or not. The demo was too short. I know demo’s aren’t supposed to be long and this was no shorter than any other demo of a game but I didn’t have enough time to get used to the style to really form an opinion.

If you weren’t aware, Arkham Origins Blackgate is a platform game. And yes a Batman platformer is pretty cool, but the two dimensional style takes awhile to get used to after playing the other Arkham titles for so long. I just played through Origins again in anticipation of the DLC Cold, Cold Heart and now I am re-playing Asylum and City in anticipation of Arkham Knight. So to move on to a platform game the same day that I beat Asylum for the fourth time was a bit disconcerting. I like the style of the cinematic scenes, which sort of look like a motion comic. I think the cut scenes are my favorite part of the demo.

It was kinda fun to chase Catwoman around Gotham, and admittedly it was easier to follow her in two dimensions with the game prompting you on where to go. The full game is like $20 so I will probably buy it and give a full review after playing through the whole game.
