Know Your Convention: a Batman Fan’s Guide to Con Season! St Louis Edition

If you were a Batman or other comic fan growing up in the 80’s or 90’s, you read Wizard magazine for all your Bat-news. It combined reviews, analysis, and quirky commentary with a comic price guide that was updated far more frequently than the industry standard The Overstreet Price guide, which only appeared quarterly.

Starting in 1991, they saw a meteoric rise in comic circles, to the point where it was even shamelessly plugged in the Kevin Smith film Jay and Silent Bob Strike back.  Spin off publications Inquest Gamer and Toyfare Magazine were added in the mid-90’s, expanding its reach to nearly every corner of Geek Culture.

As media shifted away from print and into other forms, Wizard moved right along with it. Now the former geekery publisher hosts a series of ever expanding pop culture conventions all around the country, some of which are the largest around. In this edition we stay in my home state of Missouri and tackle Wizard World St. Louis!

From the Wizard World Mothership:

"Join tens of thousands of fellow fans as they converge on the America’s Center at St. Louis Comic Con to celebrate the best in pop culture. St. Louis Comic Con brings it all – Movies, Comics, Toys, Video Gaming, Games, TV, Graphic Novels, Horror, Wrestling, MMA, Original Art, Collectibles, Anime, Manga & More! St. Louis Comic Con is brought to you by the group who produces the most widely attended Comic Con tour!"

This con is pretty new on the circuit, holding its first incarnation in 2013. That fact, however, doesn’t mean they are penny-ante. WWSTL features some heavy hitters including Batman veterans Neal Adams, current Bat-artist Greg Capullo and the granddaughter of Batman co-creator Bill Finger, Athena Finger!
