This week brought the epic news that The Matrix star Jada Pinkett Smith would be joining the cast of Gotham in the role of a crime boss. On Thursday night, Pinkett Smith confirmed the news to her fans on her official Facebook page, stating not only that she’s in the show but exactly how long she’s been contracted so far to appear.

Per Smith’s Facebook page:

"To my Facebook familyLast night, I decided to accept the role of Fish Mooney, who is the sadistic villain in thee upcoming Batman prequel, Gotham, for Fox TV. I’ve committed to a year to work alongside a very talented cast, a super cool, creative and talented head writer and an extraordinary director. This one…is going to be funnnnnn!Stay tuned:)J"

This likely means we will be seeing Pinkett Smith show up in a recurring role as Fish Mooney, the crime boss in charge of running the streets of Gotham. She also happens to be the boss of Oswald Cobblepot, who we know in the Batman universe as The Penguin.

It’s not a small role to take on and Smith is hardly a nobody who FOX cast in the role. She brings desired star power to the show and will attract more viewers thanks to her involvement.

Gotham will begin shooting soon and premiere this fall.
